About AAAL
We are a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization focused on maintaining the legacy and preserving the history of African American Appalachian
AAAL is represented by this logo.
The sun, central to this logo, represents energy, enlightenment, life, and vitality. The mountains represent the strength and beautiful mountain ranges of the Appalachian region. Rivers naturally flow and change over time and symbolize the passage of time, and during slavery time represented hope and a way to freedom. The tree is symbolic of the family tree. The green rolling hills below the mountains represent growth and peace. The Kente cloth pattern at the base of the logo is a powerful symbol of African heritage, cultural identity and pride.
