Education: Donor funds allow us to share the lessons, traditions, and experiences passed down by African American Appalachians to inspire and educate future generations. Your support helps us document stories, highlight cultural contributions, and offer historical context, fostering a deeper understanding of African American heritage while creating opportunities for ongoing learning within communities and families.

Restoration and Preservation: Financial contributions directly protect and maintain the physical spaces, artifacts, oral history, and memories that hold significance in African American Appalachian history. This includes, but is not limited to, the physical restoration and preservation of cemeteries, schools, churches, homesteads, photographs, written records, pottery, tableware, quilts, and other memorabilia. AAAL ensures that these historic sites and materials remain sources of pride, remembrance, and education.

To ensure 100% of your donation goes directly to the African American Appalachian Legacy, we use a platform called Zeffy. Unlike other platforms, Zeffy does not charge us any transaction fees.
Instead, Zeffy is funded entirely by voluntary contributions from donors like you.
When you click the donation button below, you will see a checkout form similar to what you see on the right. On the final summary step (as shown on the right), Zeffy automatically adds an optional percentage contribution to your total to support their platform.
If you do not wish to give an extra contribution to Zeffy:

Look for the section titled "Help keep Zeffy free for African American Appalachian Legacy" (see image to the right).

Click the dropdown menu that shows a percentage (e.g., 17.00%).

Select "Other" from the dropdown menu.

Enter $0 (or your preferred custom amount) in the contribution box.
This ensures that only your intended amount is charged and every single penny goes directly to our cause!
Non-monetary gifts directly support our ongoing preservation efforts, oral history projects, and community programs. By contributing gift cards, supplies, or professional services, you help AAALegacy allocate more funds directly toward our core mission.
