African American Appalachian Legacy is a national 501(c) (3) nonprofit research, service and educational organization. Become a member of a organization committed to purpose-driven education, restoration, and preservation activities that document and recognize the diverse and rich history of African Americans in Appalachia and their little known contributions to the development of this nation.
Ways to Participate:

Volunteer Advisors
The Volunteer Advisors Program offers a wide range of opportunities. Volunteers can assist with different areas such as education, finance, accounting, analysis, research, sociology, history, interpretation, fundraising, administrative support, and special events. AAAL will be recruiting volunteers starting in January of 2027.

Volunteer Student Internships
AAALegacy selects student interns to assist with various projects throughout the year. If you want to apply for an internship in analysis and research, education, marketing and development, history, web/media, or a field not listed, please complete the Volunteer Student Internship Application below and send a cover letter, resume and two letters of references to: TBD@aaalegacy.org.
Applicants should be resourceful, detail-oriented, strong communicators, comfortable engaging with people in a variety of settings, and willing to take on new challenges. AAAL will be accepting applications and recruiting student volunteers starting in March of 2027 for the 2027 summer term.
